or the past two years we've been pretty crazy busy running cafe kino - a not-for-profit cafe in the centre of bristol.

michal and rosie set up the business in 2004 alongside local kid and spent a couple of years - when not on tour - doing lots of catering, writing and re-writing business plans, and having meetings with bank managers who didn't understand a word we said, all the while searching for a permanent home for the cafe.

in may 2006, now with an ever expanding collective of staff and volunteers, we opened our doors for business, selling delicious, ethically sourced and reasonably priced vegan food and drink, as well as hosting regular events and exhibitions.

so, it's been a pretty crazy year or so for us. we've had to figure a lot of stuff out for ourselves, and it's certainly had its ups and downs. but in general, the cafe has so far been really pretty successful, whilst staying true to the same diy, feminist, queer and anti-capitalist principles that are behind local kid. and just as we have sought to do with every local kid event and tour we organise, we have created a safe and open space for this community to develop, and which we hope will leave a constuctive impact on people's lives.

if you are in bristol, please come an visit us. we are at the bottom of ninetree hill, just off stokes croft, opposite the here shop and gallery, and down the road from the cube microplex.
