have a washington dc/dischord records punk-rock heritage behind
them that alone makes them unmissable, consisting of james canty (MAKE
UP, NATION OF ULYSSES, ALL SCARS, CUPID CAR CLUB etc) and jerry busher
(FIDELITY JONES, TED LEO, FUGAZI, ALL SCARS). yet, while their previous
bands’ influences can still be heard in their music, their first
full length album, ‘in a cave’ (DISCHORD) shows them pushing
the boundaries of what post-hardcore punk can be, combining samplers,
stripped-down, hypnotic electronica, fierce, angular guitars, dub-like
bass and a personal twin-vocal style that all add up to an compelling
and uneasy tension-driven live experience. french toast move between feelings
and styles with abandon, the common thread being the way you just can’t
stop moving your limbs to it. |
