while acclaimed new york anti-folk duo MOLDY PEACHES take a hiatus,
founder member kimya dawson has been busier than ever, releasing four
solo albums (the lastest of which, ‘hidden vagenda’, was
released earlier this year on K RECORDS) and touring constantly "in
a mission to embrace the whole world" and connect with as many
people as possible. she is the modern-day WOODY GUTHRIE and BILLIE HOLIDAY
rolled into one. she has recently toured with DANIEL JOHNSTON, HERMAN
DUNE, JEFFREY LEWIS, CALVIN JOHNSON, JASON ANDERSON and SCHWERVON! and
shares the same playful innocence wrapped in world-weary-knowing as
each of them.
kimya’s tender and often heart-breaking songs, are performed so
simply and intimately, sung through a smoker-toned tongue, that you
feel as though they are being whispered into your ear by your best friend.
like a dream, and your mother is singing you asleep; a familiar lullaby
of joy and depair in life and of death and the world and of it’s
strange beauty... the bittersweet first-love heartache of a laughter
wrapped in grief. a kimya dawson show is a special occasion –
it’s a reassurance that you can still feel life the way you did
when you were six.

philadelphia's strand of oaks have recently collaborated with - and
subsequently become the backing band for - artists such as JASON ANDERSON
(K records), KIMYA DAWSON and RED HOUSE PAINTERS, and show the same
gentle restraint and subtle approach in their own songs as they lend
to others.
taking the simplicity of a folk song as a starting point and building
it into a larger moment - an idea rich in musical and emotional complexities,
yet sparse enough to allow breathing space for genuine tenderness. a
concept reminiscent of NICK DRAKE, ELLIOT SMITH, SMOG, EDITH FROST and
VASE.
strand
of oaks are tim (guitar, banjo and vocals) greg (bass, guitar, keys)
and thomas (drums).

throughout
the kimya dawson tour we will be collecting your unwanted cds to donate
to young people displaced by hurricane katrina. please look through your
cd collection and think about what you can live without, but that will
make i big difference to someone who has lost everything. if music means
anything to you, you'll know how important it is in times like this.
at the end of the tour all the cds donated will be sent directly to volunteers
in texas and louisianna who will distribute them amongst teenage survivors
who've been evacuated from new orleans.
you can also donate money to help us post the cds as quickly as possible.
